Weetabix: Barbara's
Weetabix wanted a refresh for their popular Barbara’s brand and enlisted us for a full suite of Design and Production services.
The Puffins line of the Barbara’s refresh
When Weetabix looked at their popular Barbara’s brand and saw sales leveling-off, a massive campaign was launched to refresh the design of the Brand. A complete and total overhaul, from a brand new logo, to all new photography with a focus on flavor appeal and a natural aura to the packs that have always promoted a healthier alternative to traditional fortune 500 cereals.
Enter Nancy Hourihan and Red Relish Creative. The most popular segment of the Barbara’s line is the signature Puffins line, which appeals to kids and health nuts alike. Hourihan set out to make the Puffin the hero, along with the actual cereal itself (a novel concept). A rigorous photoshoot was undertaken with the spoons and bowls becoming the main focal point. Here’s where print-ability™ sprang into work.
Once the main concept design was pretty much locked, Whalen and his team went to work to line extend and roll-out all the many flavors and variants in the line. This is where print-ability™ thrives. While grounded in a visual communication background, exacting precision and attention to detail are hallmarks of the print-ability™ team.

For us, this project was mainly an exercise in mastering elements. Each bowl & spoon needed to be composited onto the final master wood background to insure consistency of the wood across all SKUs. This was the topic of multiple Prepro calls which took place with the printer. Since an Extended Gamut printing process was to be used, many decisions had to be made concerning the hierarchy of target elements.
Many SKUs compromised the Barbara’s redesign and we’re happy to say it was a huge hit with sales increasing substantially and contributing to the sale of Weetabix to Post Consumer Products for a whopping sum. This is the magic of print-ability™.
